Belmont is a suburb of Perth, located in the Western Australian region of Australia. It is situated on the eastern side of the Swan River, near Perth Airport, and covers an area of approximately 12 square kilometers. The suburb is primarily residential, with a population of approximately 7,000 people. The local history of the Belmont region dates back to the early 19th century when the area was used as a water source for Perth. The Aboriginal Noongar people were the first known inhabitants of the region, and they utilized the land for hunting, fishing, and gathering. In 1827, the British established a colony in Perth, and the area now known as Belmont was surveyed and divided into small farms. These farms were primarily used for grazing sheep, and the area remained rural and sparsely populated for many years. In the early 20th century, the development of the Perth airport brought an influx of people and businesses to the area. Many of the local residents found work at the airport, and new housing developments were built to accommodate the growing population. During World War II, the airport became a significant military base, and the local population increased once again. After the war, the airport returned to civilian use, and the area continued to grow and develop. Throughout the 20th century, Belmont became known for its manufacturing industry, with many factories producing goods such as textiles, furniture, and electronics. The manufacturing industry provided many jobs for local residents, and the area continued to thrive. In the 1960s, the construction of a major freeway system connected Belmont with other areas of Perth, leading to further growth and development. The suburb became a popular destination for those seeking affordable housing and a convenient location near the city. Today, Belmont is a vibrant and diverse community with a rich history and a bright future. The suburb is home to a variety of parks, schools, and businesses, and it is just a short distance from the Perth CBD. Belmont is a thriving and popular suburb, offering a high quality of life for all its residents.
