Belmont Family

Families in and around Belmont can share stories, borrow toys, explore messy play, join youth activities and reach practical support when life becomes difficult. Local options span babies through to young adults, while metropolitan and online services add counselling pathways for children, parents and families.

✨ Play, stories and early learning

Ruth Faulkner Library children’s programs

At Ruth Faulkner Library in Cloverdale, families can choose activities suited to several ages. Baby Bookworms offers five-week early-literacy workshops for parents of babies up to one year, with an expression of interest required. During school terms, free Bubs at the Hub sessions welcome babies and toddlers up to two, while free Storytime is designed for children aged two to six. Older children can take part in bookable Curious Kids, LEGO Club and Historia sessions at no cost. Check the City of Belmont events calendar for dates and booking requirements.

Wiggles ’n’ Giggles

Messy play, active exploration and library activities come together in these monthly City of Belmont sessions for families with children aged six months to four years. Locations rotate across the city, including Cloverdale, Redcliffe, Rivervale and Kewdale, giving families several local settings to explore. One-off registration is requested. A parent or guardian must accompany and supervise children throughout the session, and families should bring water and sun protection.

Belmont Toy Library

Borrowing rather than buying can give children a changing selection of toys while helping families manage storage and household spending. Based at Centenary Park Community Centre in Belmont, the toy library provides an online catalogue and calendar for members. Its published schedule includes Saturday opening from 9.30 am to 11.30 am and one Wednesday morning session each month, but check the calendar before setting out. Membership choices and volunteer requirements vary, so review the current conditions when joining.

🌟 Youth activities and guidance

The Base@Belmont Youth Centre

Young people aged 11–25 can visit this Cloverdale youth centre for drop-ins, workshops, events, excursions and school-holiday activities. Qualified youth workers are available on site, making it a place to take part in activities as well as ask for guidance. Case management can include information, referrals, advocacy, goal-setting and informal counselling, with referral available through The Y WA or the City of Belmont. The City advises that operation will transition to Arche Health from 1 October 2026, with programs and support continuing through that change.

🪄 Parenting and developmental support

UplYft Children and Parenting Support

Parents and carers of children aged 0–12 who live in Cloverdale, Kewdale or Rivervale can apply for in-home parenting and family support. Social Workers and Family Support Workers assist with areas such as daily routines, behaviour, child development through play, family connections and children’s wellbeing. Having older children in the family does not exclude a household from the program. Access is through an application or referral form, and the program’s Duty Social Worker can answer questions about the pathway.

Therapy Inc Belmont

This Belmont allied-health provider works with children, teenagers and adults. Occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech pathology are available locally, with services offered at the clinic, at home, at school or in the community where appropriate. The provider states that it accepts NDIS, private and Medicare clients. Families can use its Belmont information to review current availability and submit a new-client application, then confirm which discipline, service setting and funding pathway fit their circumstances.

South East Language Development Centre – Cloverdale Campus

This Department of Education language-development centre has a Cloverdale campus serving listed suburbs including Belmont, Ascot, Redcliffe, Rivervale and Kewdale. Referrals are accepted for Kindergarten, Pre-primary and Year 1 entry, with placements commencing at the beginning of the following school year. Eligibility includes a diagnosed language disorder as the child’s main difficulty, average cognitive ability and appropriate adaptive behaviour. The program is not suitable when language difficulties are primarily due to autism, intellectual disability or English as an additional language. Assessment requirements vary by entry year, so families and referring professionals should check the current criteria carefully.

❤ Counselling for children, parents and families

Relationships Australia WA – Counselling for Children and Young People

Children from age three, young people and their families can access counselling for concerns including anxiety, grief, family separation, conflict and school-related difficulties. No referral is required. Appointments are available through Perth metropolitan services, while phone or online support may be arranged when attending a location is difficult. Fees are based on household income and are discussed when the first appointment is made.

Relationships Australia WA – Counselling for Parents and Families

Parents and family members experiencing relationship concerns, communication difficulties, separation or other significant changes can seek individual or group counselling without a referral. Access is available by appointment across metropolitan Perth, with phone or online counselling potentially available as an alternative. Fees use a household-income sliding scale, so ask about the applicable cost and appointment format when booking.

📌 Before you book or visit

  • Check the age range and eligibility: programs cover different life stages, and some specialist services have detailed referral or residency criteria.
  • Confirm bookings and dates: library workshops, rotating play sessions, holiday activities and appointments may require registration or advance booking.
  • Ask about accessibility: discuss physical access, communication needs, sensory considerations or participation support directly with the provider.
  • Clarify costs and funding: confirm current membership fees, counselling charges, Medicare arrangements, NDIS access or other funding conditions before proceeding.
  • Plan for supervision: check whether an adult must remain throughout an activity; Wiggles ’n’ Giggles specifically requires continuous parent or guardian supervision.
